Editor's Note

Why warm neutrals read differently now

There is a moment each October when the light drops and everything cools. Cool-toned neutrals that flattered all summer suddenly turn grey against the skin — they have nothing to push back with.

Ember Room is our answer. A burnt-sienna base warms every shade from underneath, so a matte still holds its depth when the daylight is thin and blue. These are colours built to be worn indoors, in lamplight, through winter.

The Three Shades

Finish, and who each one suits

Ember swatch

Ember

A true burnt sienna with a flat, velvet finish. The anchor shade — for anyone who wants warmth without red.

Clove swatch

Clove

The deepest of the four — a spiced brown with a soft matte. Best on medium to deep skin, or as an evening depth.

Ash Rose swatch

Ash Rose

A greyed rose with warmth held underneath. The softest option — suits fair, cool-leaning complexions.

Pressing a matte shade with a fingertip

Artist's Tip

Press it, don't brush it

For a softer edge on any matte, skip the brush. Warm a little colour on the back of your hand, then press it onto the lip or cheek with a clean fingertip, building in thin layers.

The body heat melts the pigment slightly, so it sits into the skin instead of on top of it — the diffused, worn-in finish these shades were made for.
